The Taxi Knowledge App is designed by Bruce Greig, an Oxford University psychologist and software designer. The app uses a learning technique called ‘spaced repetition’, which is used by memory experts to learn large amounts of information quickly.

The app displays a Point on the screen (e.g. “American Embassy”) and you try and recall the location of that point. You then tell the app how easy or difficult you found it to recall the location for that Point. Points you know well will be shown only rarely. Points you are struggling with will be shown more often.

As you use the app for a while, you’ll find that each Point appears just around the time you are about to forget it, strongly reinforcing your memory for that Point. This memory technique is known as Spaced Repetition and is one of the most efficient ways to learn information by heart.
